11th Annual JRF Scholarship Award

This year's scholarship award was presented again at the Pacific Swimming, Zone 3, Long Course Meet held at the Cunningham Aquatic Center in Vallejo. For the second time in its history, the JRF Scholarship award was split between two outstanding and equally deserving swimming scholars, Christian Dowell and Makena Pezzuto.

Christian comes highly recommended academically. He carried a 4.21 GPA at St. Patrick - St. Vincent and is a member of both NHS and CSF. Christian swam for St. Patrick-St. Vincent and was a 2008 BSAL champion, 2008 NCS Qualifier, REAL Finalist in 2007/2008, and Junior Olympic Qualifier in 2007/2008. Christian intends to enroll at UC-Davis in the fall.

      Makena completed her exceptional tenure at St. Patrick - St. Vincent with a 4.29 GPA and memberships in both NHS and CSF. She also achieved Academic All American honors from the USA Water Polo Association. Makena swam for the Benicia and Vallejo swim clubs as well as her high school team, earning top finishes in individual and relay competition. She played water polo for the GVRD and Oakland clubs and the St. Patrick-St. Vincent team, qualifying for Junior Olympics and other invitational teams. She was both team captain (10th, 11th, 12th grades) and team MVP (11th, 12th grades) for St. Patricks-St. Vincent water polo. Makena will attend Santa Clara University in the fall and play water polo.
